One hundred and seventeen respiratory therapists from 46 states and
the District of Columbia delivered our profession’s message to Capitol
Hill this week: Please Support The Medicare Respiratory Therapist
Access Act. Your Political Advocacy Contact Team (PACT)
representatives had over 300 scheduled meetings with members of
Congress.
The state of Montana had a strong and effective presence this year on
Capital Hill! Montana State Respiratory Therapists Pattie Stefans, Brian
Cayko, and Laura Vanni-Kelly along with Alpha 1 patient Mrs. Helen
Nichols presented the Medicare Respiratory Therapist Access Act. We
advocated for improved access to Respiratory Therapist’s for our
patients that struggle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
(COPD). We met with Senator Max Baucus, Chair of the Senate
Finance Committee and his healthcare staffer Karen Fisher,
Congressman Steve Daines and his natural resources assistant Meghan
Marino, and Senator John Tester’s key health care staffer Alpha
Lundstrom. This new AARC legislation is currently awaiting a final CBO
score. The cost analysis will assist the house and senate members in
understanding the financial impact to Medicare part B. Their support
and co-sponsorship is critical for this initiative to pass. The AARC has
reported that over 20,000 messages have been sent to Congress in the
past week by AARC members and our supporters! It is not too late to let
your voice be heard!
